If you have multiple authorisations please use the links below to check the requirements to be followed for revoking your authorisations.  If you are unsure about any of the conditions please e-mail: revoke@centralbank.ie.

Mortgage Intermediaries

Mortgage Intermediaries authorised under the Consumer Credit Act, 1995 (as amended) seeking to have their authorisation revoked should:

  • Submit a letter to the Revocations Section in Financial Institutions and Funds Authorisation (FIFA) Department stating that you wish to revoke your authorisation
  • Attach your Authorisation Certificate
  • Please confirm whether any complaint against the firm to the Financial Services Ombudsman ('FSO') is threatened or pending, or if there is any potential for future complaints to the FSO against the firm; and

          1. Confirm that the firm will co-operate with the investigation and adjudication of any such complaints that may

          be made to the FSO against the firm, and

          2. Confirm the identity and contact details of the contact person of the firm for the purposes of dealing with

          such complaints in order that the Central Bank can provide them to the FSO in due course if these details are

          requested by the FSO.

  • Check if there are any outstanding Industry Funding levies due – you can contact our Planning & Finance Department at: funding@centralbank.ie

Insurance/Reinsurance Intermediaries

Insurance/Reinsurance Intermediaries registered under the European Communities (Insurance Mediation) Regulations 2005 (‘IMR’) seeking to have their registration cancelled under Regulation 10 of the IMR should:

  • Attach a letter to the Revocations Section in Financial Institutions & Funds Authorisation (FIFA) Department stating that you wish to cancel your registration under the IMR
  • Send in your Certificate of Registration
  • Please confirm whether any complaint against the firm to the Financial Services Ombudsman ('FSO') is threatened or pending, or if there is any potential for future complaints to the FSO against the firm; and

          1. Confirm that the firm will co-operate with the investigation and adjudication of any such complaints that may

          be made to the FSO against the firm, and

          2. Confirm the identity and contact details of the contact person of the firm for the purposes of dealing with

          such complaints in order that the Central Bank can provide them to the FSO in due course if these details are

          requested by the FSO.

Investment Intermediaries

Multi-Agency Intermediaries (MAI)/ Authorised Advisors (AA)

Multi-Agency Intermediaries (MAI)/Authorised Advisors (AA) authorised under Section 10 of the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995 (as amended) (‘IIA’).

‘Deemed' Authorised'

'Deemed' Authorised'  authorised under Section 26 of the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995 (as amended).

If you are unsure about your firm’s/your authorisation status, please check the Registers section of our website.

Enter your firm’s/your name and check the ‘entity type’.  Among the categories are:

  • Investment Business Firm (which is a ‘Section 10’ Authorisation) or: 
  • Investment Business Firm (MAI – Deemed RAIPI)

Multi-Agency Intermediaries (MAI)/ Authorised Advisors (AA)

An investment business firm authorised under Section 10 of the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995 (as amended) (‘IIA’) seeking to revoke its authorisation should submit the following:

  • A letter to the Financial Institutions & Funds Authorisation (FIFA) Department stating that it wishes to revoke its authorisation
  • Confirmation that all of the firm’s liabilities, duties and obligations have been discharged
  • A copy of the letter sent to the firm’s product producers (with whom the firm holds/held appointments – see below) confirming the cessation of business
  • A copy of the letter sent to the firm’s clients confirming the cessation of business
  • A copy of the notice of discontinuance (sample below) published in a national newspaper, which must include a full list of the IIA product producers that the firm held appointments with.  (The notice of discontinuance can only be published in a national newspaper once the appointments have been discontinued.|)
  • The firm’s Statement of Authorised Status.
  • Please confirm whether any complaint against the firm to the Financial Services Ombudsman ('FSO') is threatened or pending, or if there is any potential for future complaints to the FSO against the firm; and

          1. Confirm that the firm will co-operate with the investigation and adjudication of any such complaints that 

          may be made to the FSO against the firm; and

          2. Confirm the identity and contact details of the contact person of the firm for the purposes of dealing with

          such complaints in order that the Central Bank can provide them to the FSO in due course if these details are

          requested by the FSO

(Sample) Notice of Discontinuance

Pursuant to Section 31 of the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995 (as amended), [Insert Company Name and Address] hereby gives notice that it has discontinued its appointment as an investment intermediary with the following companies: - (Please list all IIA product producers here) with effect from Day/Month/Year.

The firm can add a further comment if it wishes.  Please check with the Central Bank at revoke@centralbank.ie for prior approval.
