2013 €10 Silver Proof Coin

The 2013 €10 Silver Proof coin will be launched on 10 April 2013 and go on sale on 11 April. The coin, which bears the Europa symbol is part of the European Silver Programme. The theme for 2013 is ‘European Writers’. The coin depicts James Joyce and has been designed by Mary Gregoriy. The issue limit for this silver proof coin is only 10,000 pieces. The diameter of the coin is 38.61 mm and each coin weighs 28.28 grammes. The alloy used in the production of this coin is .925 Sterling Silver.

The Central Bank acknowledges that the text on the Joyce coin does not correspond to the precise text as it appears in Ulysses (an additional word “that” has been added to the second sentence). While the error is regretted, it should be noted that the coin is an artistic representation of the author and text and not intended as a literal representation.  

The coin will continue to be available for purchase. Anyone purchasing the coin will be informed as to the error in the text. Anyone who may already have purchased the coin and wishes to return it will be facilitated with a full refund.

The Silver Proof €10 coin in honour of James Joyce is now sold out.  The coin went on sale on 11 April 2013 and a total of 10,000 coins were minted.

2013 Annual Mint Set

The 2013 Annual Mint Set was launched on 7 January 2013 and celebrates the Irish Harp. The harp has long been associated with Ireland since earliest times featuring prominently in Irish folklore and legend.  A harp first appeared on the coinage of Henry VIII and has been used on modern Irish coins since the original Percy Metcalfe designs issued in 1928.

The issue limit for this coin set is 15,000 pieces.

2009 Annual Mint Set

Celebrating 125 Years of the GAA, the 2009 Annual Mint Set was launched on 30^th January 2009. The set contains each of the 8 euro coins in brilliant uncirculated quality and is presented in this very attractive and informative display. The Issue limit for the set is 25,000 pieces.

The GAA is the largest sporting organisation in Ireland with approximately 2,500 clubs and 800,000 members. The games that it promotes, Gaelic football and hurling (as well as handball, rounders, camogie and Ladies’ football) are played across the island and throughout the Diaspora. It’s national stadium, Croke Park, which holds 82,300 people, embodies the success of the GAA in the 21^st Century. This is one of a number of products that will be produced by the Central Bank in 2009, and it is also planned to launch a special GAA €15 Silver Proof coin in November to coincide with the actual anniversary.

2008 Annual Mint Set

The Central Bank of Ireland are pleased to announce the issue of the 2008 Annual Mint Set. This is the sixth and final mint set in the 'Heritage of Ireland' series. This set features the ancient passage tomb at Newgrange. Built over 5000 years ago, the burial chamber is entered through a long stone passage with the whole area being covered by a huge mound. The tomb is bordered by 97 kerb stones bearing decorative patterns in the Megalithic art style.

This set is currently on sale and has proven very popular since it was first issued in January 2008.
