Revocations Process for a MiFID Investment Firm authorisation under the European Union (Markets in Financial Instruments) Regulations 2017

Regulation 13 of the European Union (Markets in Financial Instruments) Regulations 2017 (S.I. No. 375/2017), as amended (“the Regulations”) provides for the voluntary withdrawal of an authorisation where an Investment Firm “expressly renounces the authorisation” (i.e. a voluntary revocation of authorisation request).

Linked below, the” Guidance Note on application for “Withdrawal (Voluntary Revocation) of Authorisation of a MiFID Investment Firm” sets out the requirements of the Central Bank where a MiFID Investment Firm proposes to seek voluntary revocation of their authorisation. This process also covers those instances where an investment firm is seeking to revoke its authorisation of Investment Business Services and /or Instruments.

Such applications should be submitted to the Central Bank by completing the “Application Form for Withdrawal (Voluntary Revocation) of Authorisation of a MiFID Investment Firm” linked below and submitting it together with all of the required supporting documentation to the Central Bank at the address provided on the Application Form. Incomplete applications will not be processed and may be returned thereby potentially exposing your firm to increased regulatory levies and/or other levies. The authorisation/registration held by your firm can be checked on the Central Bank’s registers.

Please ensure that all sections of the Application Form are completed. Any queries in relation to the revocation process should be addressed to investment firm [email protected].

If you have any queries regarding any outstanding regulatory levies due by the firm to the Central Bank, please contact our Billing & Collections section at [email protected].
