Date: 04 November 2016

On 20 October 2016 the EBA responded to the European Commission's call for technical advice, issued on 13 June 2016, on the criteria to identify the categories of investment firms for which the prudential regime laid down in the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) and Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) is appropriate. In general, the EBA recommends that only those investment firms that are systemic and bank-like should remain subject to the full CRD/CRR regime and recommends that systemic and bank-like investment firms are identified as Global Systemically Important Institutions (GSIIs) and Other Systemically Important Institutions (OSIIs). The full EBA opinion is available here.
