Securities Statistics

The Central Bank of Ireland collects and publishes data on securities statistics that provide insights into the Irish financial system. The securities datasets track both the supply of securities (issuances) and their distribution across the economy (holdings). The data are compiled from security-by-security information to produce aggregate datasets that capture activity across a wide-range of financial instruments - government bonds, corporate debt securities, equities and investment fund shares – covering across resident institutional sectors, including households.

Securities Holdings Statistics

The Securities Holdings Statistics (SHS) dataset covering resident institutional sectors (inc. Households) are published by the Central Bank of Ireland on a quarterly basis. These statistics show the trends in the market value of holdings (stock) and instruments covered include debt securities, listed shares and investment fund shares/units.

Securities Issues Statistics

The Securities Issues Statistics (SIS) for Ireland provide a sectoral breakdown of all securities issuances of equity or debt by Irish resident entities. These statistics show the trends in financing of all Irish-resident entities, by issuer sector and instrument type. Data is published monthly and shows the trends in total issuance (stock) and transactions (flow).

Holdings of Long-Term Irish Government Bonds

The introduction of the Securities Holding Regulation1 from December 2013 has enabled the enhanced collection of data from resident custodians who hold securities on behalf of investors. This has resulted in the expanded publication of statistics on resident holders of Irish Government Bonds. The data compilation is assisted also by the long-term government bond register maintained by the Central Bank of Ireland as well as other information provided by national authorities
