ESMA Guidelines and Recommendations

Date: 12 September 2016

On 18 July 2016, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published a call for candidates to newly constitute a Consultative Working Group (CWG) for the ESMA Commodity Derivatives Task Force (CDTF) as the two-year-term of the existing CWG has recently expired.

The CWG is mainly expected to advise and assist the CDTF on technical standards such as guidelines, Q&As and other guidance in relation to relevant legislative provisions within the area of competence of the CDTF; and advise and assist the Task Force in assessing the potential impact of proposed technical standards and guidelines.

The CDTF undertakes ESMA’s work relating to commodity financial markets. In terms of markets covered, the following ones form part of the work of the CDTF: energy (gas, oil, coal and electricity); metals; agricultural and soft commodities; and others, such as freight. In terms of products, the whole range of instruments, from traditional futures to exotic derivatives, are within the remit of the CDTF. It is responsible for preparing ESMA technical standards, opinions, guidelines, Q&As and other guidance related to the implementation of the MiFID II framework. The CDTF is also tasked with preparing advice to the European Commission and to other ESMA groups on commodity derivatives related matters.

Interested experts are asked to send their application to ESMA by 29 August 2016.
