Overview
Whether you are living in a city or rural area, Central Bank of Ireland is committed to ensuring that cash is readily available as a means of payment.
You may believe you have insufficient access to cash services in your locality. Cash services include:
- ATMs
- Cash Service Points (where you can withdraw or lodge banknotes and coins, and where in-person assistance is available).
If you believe there is a need for more of these in your locality, you can notify us using our simple online form.
The Access to Cash legislation aims to ensure sufficient and effective access to cash based on the levels that existed in December 2022. Our data shows that Ireland’s cash infrastructure is broadly in line with those levels and with the criteria set out in the legislation.
So, while localised difficulties with cash access may arise, the legislation is not necessarily meant to increase the level of cash services in Ireland, but rather to ensure that there remains sufficient and effective access throughout the country. Therefore, not every location in Ireland will require ATM or cash service points.
Before completing our local deficiency notification form:
- Check our Cash Access Map to identify where cash services are located in your locality.
- Read our assessment process and guidelines to understand what reasonable and effective access to cash services means, and how the Central Bank assesses notifications and reaches its conclusions.
If you have done your checks and still believe there is a need for further ATMs or cash service points in your locality, please complete our local deficiency notification form with as much information as you can (we will not publish any personal details relating to you).
