As part of Dublin Festival of History 2026, Central Bank of Ireland is hosting a hybrid event, “Grace O’Malley: The Woman Behind the Legend”.
Our presenter is novelist and screenwriter Anne Chambers, Grace O'Malley's biographer, and author of “Grace O Malley: The Biography of Ireland’s Queen 1530-1603”. The event will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Series B Irish banknotes, and celebrates the selection of O'Malley's portrait for the unreleased £100 note.
Anne Chambers will examine O’Malley’s life within the context of 16th-century Irish political, social, economic and financial conditions, while exploring her significance as a figure of female leadership and positive ageing. The presentation will analyse how these historical circumstances shaped her influence and legacy.
