Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 

From July to December 2026, Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It’s an exciting time, bringing the eyes of Europe to Ireland. The Government has published their policy priorities, setting out how Ireland’s 2026 EU Presidency will be defined.

Central Bank of Ireland’s role is to support the Government, particularly the Department of Finance as Chair of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) and relevant working parties / preparatory meetings throughout the Presidency.

The Central Bank will also take part in a number of cultural and awareness raising initiatives with the aim of bringing Ireland to the EU and the EU to Ireland.
