EU Coin Challenge

On 7 July 2026, Central Bank of Ireland launched a €2 commemorative coin to mark Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July – December 2026.
500,000 of these coins went into general circulation, while a limited edition proof set (1,000 pieces only) was also produced.
The Challenge
On 27 July, we launched the EU Coin Challenge, encouraging members of the public to:
- Find one of the new €2 coins in circulation
- Create a video, of no longer than 20 seconds, to reveal the hidden coin in as creative a way as possible.
The closing date for entries was Sunday 4 October. Three winners – to be announced in December – will win one of the sold-out limited edition proof sets.
Finalist Shortlist
A panel of judges is currently assessing 15 shortlisted videos prior to the Central Bank announcing the winners of the EU Coin Challenge.
The shortlisted videos will be published on our Instagram channel throughout November. The three videos that receive the most “Likes” will get extra marks added to the judges’ scorecards.
The finalists are:
- Áine Kiely, Cork
- Anita Fullam, Meath
- Artur Irlik, Wexford
- Charlie Casey-Carney, Dublin
- Cian Galvin, Kildare
