Central Bank at the National Ploughing Championships
Central banking and ploughing are not two things you would typically put together but that didn’t stop us having a fantastic time at the National Ploughing Championships 2019 in Fenagh, Co. Carlow.
This terrific event has become a staple in Central Bank of Ireland's calendar in recent years and gives us the chance to meet the public and answer any questions you might have about what we do.
It was also an opportunity for our new governor, Gabriel Makhlouf, and members of our senior team, to meet the people of Ireland and talk to them about key aspects of our work and hear their views.
Not only that, we were also joined by our colleagues in the European Central Bank who came all the way from Frankfurt with their travelling exhibition.
However our time at the Ploughing wasn’t all central banking and financial regulation – we made sure that there was plenty of fun to be had for visitors to our stand.
Our new animated video, which explains what the Central Bank does, formed the centrepiece of the exhibition while we also showcased some of the iconic banknotes of Ireland since independence.
Visitors to our stand also got the chance to win prizes by taking part in a range of fun activities we put on over our three days in Carlow.
We had an inflation target darts game, a cool "shredded money" exhibit along with a twice daily raffle which gave visitors the chance to win their very own collector coin.
For the little ones, we had a fully supplied art station, where budding artists were able to try their hand at designing their very own coins.
And if that wasn’t enough, we also hosted a special “treasure hunt” based on information around the exhibition.
We would like to give a huge thanks to everyone for taking the time to visit our stand and helping to make this year’s event such a success!
