Schools Art Competition

Schools Art CompetitionTo commemorate its 75th anniversary, the Central Bank of Ireland is inviting schools across the country to take part in a national art competition. Part of the Central Bank’s role is to issue banknotes and coins on behalf of the Minister for Finance. In this, our anniversary year, the Central Bank of Ireland National Art Competition invites students of all ages to take on the role of coin designers.

Irish collector coins celebrate figures of national importance and commemorate significant events in Irish history. In keeping with this tradition, our art competition asks students to take inspiration from significant people and events from the past 75 years and design their own €2 coin.

The competition is open to both primary and post primary schools with four distinct categories:

• Primary – Infants to 2nd Class
• Primary – 3rd to 6th Class
• Post-primary – 1st Year to 3rd Year
• Post-primary – TY to 6th Year

Primary schools are limited to no more than eight entries for each category.
Post-primary schools are limited to no more than six entries per category.

Regional winners will be chosen from each of the four categories, with a total of 16 all-Ireland finalists from four regions. Two overall national winners will be selected (one Primary and one Post-primary). Two national runners-up will also be chosen. The winning schools will be featured on the Central Bank’s website and social media channels.

The national winners will be invited to a special awards event to take place in May 2018 at the Central Bank’s headquarters in Dublin.

• Regional winners receive €100 voucher each.
• National runners-up receive €250 voucher each.
• National winners receive a €500 voucher. They will also have their winning design printed in 3D and displayed in the Central Bank Visitor Centre during 2018, following which the winning schools will take ownership of this display.
